A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to compliance with federal education requirements BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 7, Education Code, is amended by adding Section 7.007 to read as follows: Section 7.007 Compliance with No Child Left Behind Act. It is the intent of the Legislature that the state and its school districts and charter schools comply with the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act, PL107-110, as amended. The commissioner shall require school districts and charter schools to take such actions as are required under that Act and may enforce this section by withholding federal funds, to the extent authorized by law, or by imposing sanctions under Section 39.131. SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
