A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to longevity pay for certain local employees.                        
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Section 152.906, Local Government Code, is 
amended to read as follows:
	Sec. 152.906.  LONGEVITY PAY GENERALLY [FOR DEPUTY 
CONSTABLES].  Except as provided by Section 152.074, a [In a county 
with a population of 190,000 or more, the] commissioners court may 
provide for each district, county, or precinct employee or 
classification of those employees [county employee, including, but 
not limited to, deputy constables,] longevity pay[,] in addition to 
regular compensation on terms and in an amount determined by the 
commissioners court [, of $5 a month, or any other amount determined 
by the commissioners court, for each year of service in the county, 
up to and including 30 years].
	SECTION 2.  Subchapter D, Chapter 41, Government Code, is 
repealed.          
	SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
