H.B. No. 3584
AN ACT
relating to the Moore County Juvenile Board.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Sections 152.1771(a), (b), and (e), Human
Resources Code, are amended to read as follows:
(a) The Moore County Juvenile Board is composed of:
(1) the county judge; and
(2) six [two] persons appointed by the Moore County
Commissioners Court[;
[(3) two persons appointed by the Dumas City
Commission; and
[(4) two persons appointed by the board of trustees of
the Dumas Independent School District].
(b) The appointed members serve staggered two-year terms
with the terms of three members [one person appointed by the city,
one person appointed by the county, and one person appointed by the
school district] expiring on December 31 of each even-numbered
year, and the terms of three members expiring on December 31 of each
odd-numbered year.
[(e) The commissioners court, the Dumas City Commission,
and the board of trustees of the Dumas Independent School District
may agree to pay equally the costs of the salaries and expenses of
the juvenile department.]
SECTION 2. The two persons appointed by the Moore County
Commissioners Court serving on the Moore County Juvenile Board
immediately before the effective date of this Act shall serve the
remainder of their terms. The first four persons appointed on or
after the effective date of this Act to serve on the Moore County
Juvenile Board as provided by Section 152.1771(a), Human Resources
Code, as amended by this Act, shall draw lots for staggered terms,
so that the terms of three of the six appointed members expire
December 31 of each even-numbered year, and the terms of the other
three of the six appointed members expire December 31 of each
odd-numbered year.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
