A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the appointment or election of judges of municipal
courts of record in the City of Bedford.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Chapter 30, Government Code, is amended by
adding Subchapter XX to read as follows:
SUBCHAPTER XX. BEDFORD
Sec. 30.01881. APPLICATION. This subchapter applies to the
City of Bedford.
Sec. 30.01882. JUDGE. The governing body of the city may
determine by ordinance whether a municipal judge is appointed by
the governing body or elected by the qualified voters of the city by
a majority vote. A municipal judge serves for a term of three
years.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
