                                                                H.C.R. No. 5  


HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The passing of Cordelia Maxine Knight on October 1, 2002, at the age of 86, brought a great loss to the friends and family of this esteemed Paris resident; and WHEREAS, Born November 30, 1915, in Lamar County, Mrs. Knight married Bluford Johnson, who later lost his life in World War II; she was blessed to again find love with Bernard Wade Knight, whom she wed on November 8, 1947, and with whom she shared an enduring relationship; and WHEREAS, She graduated from Paris Junior College, East Texas State University, and the University of Denver School of Social Work; a counselor for the American Red Cross after World War II, she worked for the Edna Gladney Home placing children and later served as a counselor at General Dynamics in Fort Worth; she also taught school in Powderly, Direct, and Fort Worth; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Knight was an active member of her community, participating with her husband in the Grassroots Democrats and as members of the Calvary United Methodist Church; and WHEREAS, Those who shared the friendship of this notable Texan will long miss her presence, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of those whose lives she touched during her time on this earth; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby pay special tribute to the life of Cordelia Maxine Knight and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her husband, Bernard Knight; to her daughter, Angela S. Martin-Doroba, and her husband, Tom; to her son, Wade Knight, and his wife, Cassie; to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and to the other relatives and many friends of this beloved woman; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of Cordelia Maxine Knight.
