CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The passing of P. A. Thomas, Jr., on January 28,
2002, at the age of 78, brought a great loss to the family and many
friends of this esteemed Titus County resident; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas was born June 13, 1923, in Winfield and
spent most of his life in Titus County; a graduate of Winfield High
School, he enjoyed serving as master of ceremonies at reunions held
by his alma mater; and
WHEREAS, Retired from his career as a lab technician for
American Petrofina, he maintained an abiding commitment to the
community throughout the years as a coach of multiple sports; this
beloved gentleman guided generations of youngsters to little league
success as the coach of the Cardinals, the Chevys, and the Flying
Queens; and
WHEREAS, Active in various organizations, Mr. Thomas was a
member of the Mt. Pleasant Noon Lions Club, the Odd Fellows Lodge,
and the AFL-CIO union, which he served as secretary; notably, he
served as chairman of the Democratic Party of Titus County for
nearly 30 years; and
WHEREAS, P. A. Thomas touched the lives of many people during
his lifetime, and though his special presence will be deeply
missed, his memory will long endure in the hearts and minds of all
who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby honor the life of P. A. Thomas, Jr., and extend sincere
sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Margie Thomas;
to his son, Rusty Thomas and his wife, Gloria; to his daughter,
Patricia Masters; to his grandsons, Cody, Brad, and Ryan Thomas; to
his step-granddaughter Teri Jenkins; to his great-grandson, Dylan
Thomas; to his step-great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Kaeley
Jenkins; and to his many good friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
P. A. Thomas, Jr.
