CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Robert O. "Bob" Schnell of Borger was an outstanding
Texan whose passing on June 29, 2002, at the age of 77, brought
great sorrow to his family, friends, and community; and
WHEREAS, Born on August 10, 1924, Mr. Schnell graduated from
high school in Spearman, Texas; he served his country with honor
during World War II as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps stationed
in England; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Schnell returned to Spearman in 1946 and joined
his father in the electrical contracting business before accepting
a position with the First State Bank of Spearman; after attending
the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist
University, he moved to Borger and worked for the First National
Bank until he retired as vice president; and
WHEREAS, Long active in his community, Mr. Schnell devoted
much of his time and energy to the Boy Scouts of America, FFA, 4-H,
and the Salvation Army; his many civic contributions also included
working with the regional planning board, airport board, county
extension service, Veterans Land Board, and chamber of commerce;
and
WHEREAS, Deeply loyal to the Freemasons, Mr. Schnell was
raised October 25, 1948, in Hansford Lodge No. 1040 in Spearman;
over the years he distinguished himself in a number of capacities,
including Worshipful Master, Grand Junior Warden, and District
Deputy Grand Master; as Grand Master of Texas Masons in 1993, he
displayed exemplary leadership and contributed significantly to
the success of the endowed membership program and many other
projects; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Schnell attended the First Christian Church of
Borger, where he served as a trustee and taught Sunday school; when
not working in behalf of his community, he enjoyed flying, golfing,
hunting, and fishing; and
WHEREAS, A talented man with a generous heart, Mr. Schnell
was a successful businessman, able church and community leader, and
faithful Mason; he enriched the lives of countless individuals, and
his spirit will continue to live in the hearts of the many people
whose lives he so deeply touched; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert O. "Bob" Schnell and extend
sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Lucille
Schnell; to his sons and daughters-in-law, Clay and Pam Schnell and
Michael and Patti Schnell; to his stepchildren and their spouses,
John and Susan Witt, Tom Witt, Randy Witt, Cari Witt, and Lori Witt
Tucker and her husband, Tim; to his grandchildren, Rob Schnell,
Tyler Schnell, Ryan Schnell, Paige Tucker, Pierce Tucker, Hannah
Witt, Holli Witt, and Devin Witt; to his brothers and
sisters-in-law, Louis and Barbara Schnell and Aaron Lloyd and
Danny Jean Schnell; to his sisters and brothers-in-law, Arlene and
Burl Bohannon, Betty and Kenneth Parker, and Kayleen and Howard
Carter; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
Robert O. Schnell.
