H.C.R. No. 47
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Tarrant County extension agent Hurley E. Miller has
been named the recipient of a 2002 Superior Service Award, the
highest honor given by Texas Cooperative Extension to a member of
its faculty or staff; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Miller currently serves as county extension
agent for 4-H and youth development in Tarrant County; under his
direction, the 4-H program has grown from 19 to 24 clubs, while
membership and total participation have also increased
significantly; and
WHEREAS, Among Mr. Miller's successful projects are Teens
Learning Leadership, an eight-week leadership development course,
and One Homeless Night, a nationally recognized service learning
project to raise community awareness about the homeless; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Miller has also served with distinction in
numerous professional leadership positions; president of the Texas
Association of Extension 4-H Agents, he has represented Texas at
the national agents' meeting, the Southern Region Leadership
Conference, and the national Public Issues Leadership Development
Conference in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, On February 7, 2003, the Texas Legislative Black
Caucus presented Mr. Miller with an Outstanding Texan Award for his
exemplary work within the community; and
WHEREAS, The 2002 Superior Service Award honors him for his
outstanding achievement and personal commitment in serving Tarrant
County youth and extension colleagues through educational efforts
in leadership development; it represents the esteem in which he is
held by his colleagues, and it is a pleasure to join with them in
commending Mr. Miller for a job well done; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby congratulate Hurley E. Miller on receiving a Superior
Service Award from Texas Cooperative Extension and extend to him
warmest wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Miller as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives and Senate.
