CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the 78th Texas Legislature join the
family and friends of William Glenn Smiley, Jr., of Fort Worth, in
mourning the passing of this fine young man who died on October 17,
2002, at the age of 17; and
WHEREAS, A senior at Dunbar Senior High School, Mr. Smiley
served three years as student manager for the Dunbar Wildcats
football team; during his tenure, he videotaped the team in action
and managed the equipment, playing a strategic role in the
Wildcats' successful 24-9 record, which included three consecutive
district championships; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Smiley is profoundly missed by his family,
friends, and teachers, and his memory will continue to shine
brightly in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas pay
tribute to the life of William Smiley and extend deepest sympathy to
the members of his family: to his father, William Glenn Smiley,
Sr.; to his mother, Teresa Smiley; to his sisters, Ebonie Smiley,
Sherry Smiley, and Rosalyn Smiley; to his grandparents, Climmie
Cushionberry, Flosceal Smiley, and the Reverend Hubert Smiley; to
his nephew, Jacobi Atkins; to his niece, Makayla Levi; and to his
other relatives and numerous friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
William Smiley, Jr.
