H.C.R. No. 54 


HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Eli and Earlie Mae Davis commemorated their golden wedding anniversary with a renewal of their wedding vows on June 8, 2002, at Greater New Zion Baptist Church in Dallas; and WHEREAS, Eli Davis and the former Earlie Mae Rhodes met as students at Mary Allen College in Crockett, Texas; both recipients of scholarships from their individual churches, the two were academic achievers and campus leaders, and it wasn't long before the quarterback of the football team and varsity cheerleader realized they had met their match and became college sweethearts; and WHEREAS, United in matrimony on June 8, 1952, at James Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Mr. and Mrs. Davis have been blessed with two sons, two daughters, and one foster daughter; through the years they have proudly watched their close-knit family grow to include 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, A retired U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Davis served his country during the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and later taught in the Dallas Independent School District (DISD); Mrs. Davis is also a retired educator of the DISD whose love of children has touched the lives of countless young people; and WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Davis are active members of Greater New Zion Baptist Church, where he is a deacon and participates in the music ministry; she is a deaconess and usher and serves in the mission ministry; both have made contributions to the wider community through their involvement in various social, charitable, and civic clubs; and WHEREAS, These devoted Texans have shared an enduring union filled with many happy times and cherished family memories, and it is indeed a privilege to honor them for all they have accomplished in their life together; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby congratulate Eli and Earlie Mae Davis on the joyful occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Davis as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
