H.C.R. No. 71
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Coach Robert Hughes of the Dunbar High School
Wildcats in Fort Worth has captured his 1,275th victory to become
the nation's most successful boys' high school basketball coach;
and
WHEREAS, Achieving his 22nd 30-win season in a career that
has spanned 45 years, Coach Hughes led his Wildcats to a 71-62 win
over district rival Polytechnic High School before a capacity crowd
at Texas Christian University's Daniel-Meyer Coliseum; this
victory gave his team the district title and made him the
winningest high school basketball coach in America; and
WHEREAS, Coach Hughes occupies a lofty position within the
high school coaching profession; reflecting the high esteem in
which he is held, the Fort Worth Independent School District
recently honored him by christening Robert Hughes Court at
Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center; and
WHEREAS, Inspiring his players to excellence, Coach Hughes
has made lasting contributions to his students and has left his mark
on high school sports history; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby congratulate Coach Robert Hughes of Dunbar High School on
achieving the most high school boys' basketball victories in the
nation and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Coach Hughes as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
