H.C.R. No. 107
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, A poem on racial tolerance titled "Talk" by RaShawn
Washington of Fort Worth is being published in the latest edition of
A Celebration of Young Poets, and this noteworthy occasion provides
a fitting opportunity to honor Ms. Washington; and
WHEREAS, The cherished daughter of James and Sylvia Spencer,
Ms. Washington is a seventh-grade student at Forest Oak Middle
School, where she excels in honors math, science, and English
courses and is a member of the school's honor roll and choir; and
WHEREAS, This dedicated young scholar has been nominated for
United States Achievement Awards in science and English; in
addition, she will join other area students in attending a
conference on diversity hosted by 21st Century Community Learning
Centers; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Washington has demonstrated a commitment to
excellence in all her endeavors that is reflected in her poetry and
her academic achievements, and it is a pleasure to honor her at this
time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby congratulate RaShawn Washington on her work's inclusion in A
Celebration of Young Poets and extend to her sincere best wishes for
continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Washington as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
