H.C.R. No. 127
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Tarrence Leon White of Fort
Worth on December 21, 2002, at the age of 16, has deeply saddened
the family and many friends of this beloved young man; and
WHEREAS, Born on June 19, 1986, in Fort Worth, he attended S.
S. Dillow Elementary School and William James Middle School, where
he played football; a devoted fan of major league baseball players,
he attended the All Star games in 1995 and 1996 and participated in
Cowboy Camp for two years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. White was a junior at Southwest High School,
where he excelled in Spanish and French and was particularly known
for his outstanding talent and dedication as a "shooting guard" on
the Southwest Raiders' varsity basketball team; and
WHEREAS, A favorite of his classmates, fellow athletes, and
teachers alike, this impressive young Texan, affectionately known
as "Poopie," drew a circle of diverse and loyal friends who admired
his upbeat attitude, sense of humor, and leadership on and off the
basketball court; and
WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, he served as a role model for
his siblings and cousins; in addition to a full schedule of classes,
practice, and games, he was a congregant of Great Commission
Baptist Church, where he was baptized at the age of 12, and he also
met the responsibilities of employment at Albertson's; and
WHEREAS, Although it is immeasurably painful to say goodbye
to one so young and full of promise, it is fitting to keep in mind
that while Mr. White's time here was all too brief, his life
profoundly affected those around him, and his memory will surely
continue to inspire the countless individuals whose lives he
touched; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby pay tribute to the life of Tarrence Leon White and extend
deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his mother, Karen
White Sherer, and her husband, Roy; to his father, Fanta Maru, and
his wife, Kudusan Mesmer; to his brothers, Edward Johnson, Yosef
Maru, Tewodros Maru, and Michael Maru; to his sister, Meaza Maru; to
his aunts, Debra Johnson, Martha White, and Betty Lee; to his
uncles, Darryl White, Freddie White, and Michael Thompson; to his
grandparents, G. Maru and Shekim Awoke; to his great-grandmother,
Grace Gilmore; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
Tarrence Leon White.
