H.C.R. No. 160


HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, In claiming the 2003 UIL Class 3A boys' basketball championship, Everman High School joined an elite group of only four Texas schools that have garnered state titles in both football and basketball in the same school year; and WHEREAS, The Bulldogs were voted No. 1 in Class 3A throughout the entire season by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and entered the state tournament determined to live up to their lofty ranking; facing Tatum High School in the title contest, Everman put on a textbook demonstration of hardwood fundamentals en route to an overwhelming 72-44 victory; and WHEREAS, Each player made significant contributions to the team's overall success during the 2002-2003 campaign, including Bobby Joshua, who was named the tournament's most valuable player, Casey Forge, a member of the all-tournament team, Nick Martin, Glenn Brown, Victor Freeman, Jonathan Harrell, Matthew Hall, Michael Benton, Marcus Mendez, Brandon Brown, Darius Washington, Roscoe Mickens, Calvin Simmons, and Anthony Spoon; and WHEREAS, Head coach Brian Hannas provided his young charges with exceptional leadership and guidance in helping them to achieve their championship dream, and he was ably supported in his efforts by assistant coaches Jay Mathieson, Marcus Smith, Steven Montgomery, Jay Brown, and Anthony Easley; and WHEREAS, The achievements of these talented athletes are a source of great pride to all those associated with Everman High School, and it is indeed appropriate that they receive special legislative recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby congratulate the members of the Everman High School boys' basketball team on winning the 2003 UIL Class 3A state championship and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for prominent display at Everman High School as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
