CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Residents of Lacy-Lakeview lost a beloved neighbor, friend, and community leader with the passing of B. R. Ralston "Boots" Douglas on March 12, 2003; and WHEREAS, Born on April 8, 1906, Mr. Douglas married the former Gladys Bell, and the couple enjoyed a rich and rewarding marriage until her passing; they were blessed with two cherished daughters, Cheri Jeanene Ruff and Virginia Lynn Money; and WHEREAS, This esteemed community leader served as the mayor of Lacy-Lakeview in 1977-1978 and as a city councilman for many years; he was active with the Boy Scouts of America, Knights of Columbus, and the local school board; and WHEREAS, A charter member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, he gave generously of his time and talents in support of his church and his fellow congregants over the years; in addition to serving as a CCD teacher and lay minister, he was the only school bus driver the church ever had and served many years as its maintenance man; he is also credited with planting many of the pine trees that now grace the church's property; and WHEREAS, Mr. Douglas was a man of integrity, dedication, and unwavering faith, and while he will be greatly missed, his memory lives on in the hearts and minds of the many people whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby pay tribute to the life of B. R. "Boots" Douglas and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his son-in-law, J. P. "Parnell" Money; to his grandchildren, Cheri Lynn Gibbons and her husband, Robert; Mary Elizabeth Money; Nila Williams and her husband, Michael; Curtis Money and his wife, Debra; Jeri Morgan and her husband, Lee; Douglas Money and his wife, Debbie; Rudy Money and his wife, Marsha; and Ann Shapiro; to his 29 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of B. R. Ralston Douglas.
