H.C.R. No. 207
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Gilda Molina Marquez was recognized for being an
outstanding educator with her selection as teacher of the year by
J. L. Long Middle School and as one of the 12 semifinalists in the
Dallas Independent School District's teacher of the year contest;
and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Southern Methodist University, where
she earned a bachelor of arts degree in English and in political
science as well as a master of science degree in public
administration, Ms. Marquez has worked in the field of education
for more than 20 years; and
WHEREAS, She began teaching in 1975 at Richland Community
College, and over the years has held a number of instructor and
administrative positions in the Dallas ISD; since the fall of 2000,
she has worked as an ESL-language arts and Texas studies instructor
for seventh and eighth grade students; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Marquez has ably served in numerous professional
organizations, including as chairperson of the student activities
program of the Southern Association of Colleges and as a member of
the Dallas Administrators Association; she also has made worthwhile
contributions through her involvement with the Dallas Opera
Education Board and the Dallas Public Library Board; and
WHEREAS, Widely recognized for her dedication to addressing
the achievement gap between students, Ms. Marquez has used her
experience and training to positively influence the lives of
countless young Texans, and this special commendation is truly
appropriate; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby recognize Gilda Molina Marquez as an exemplary teacher who
is most deserving of being named teacher of the year and a
semifinalist in the Dallas ISD teacher of the year contest; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Marquez as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
