H.C.R. No. 212


HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, A number of talented elementary and middle school students representing Area II participated in the Forth Worth Independent School District's 2002 spelling bee contest, and the event represented the culmination of a great deal of hard work and preparation on the part of its contestants; and WHEREAS, These bright young students showcased their spelling abilities by winning their respective campus bees; they were then afforded the opportunity to test their spelling skills against other winners from schools throughout the district; and WHEREAS, Monica DeSantiago of William James Middle School won the coveted title of Area II champion at the regional spelling bee, demonstrating her mastery of this essential skill, while Wendy Clewis of Carroll Peak Elementary School also put in a strong showing and won the runner-up position in the regional competition; and WHEREAS, Students who won their individual school spelling bees include Taylor Knowlion of S. S. Dillow Elementary School, Breanna Mays of Eastern Hills Elementary School, Christina Flores of East Handley Elementary School, Tyroniece King of Morningside Elementary School, Ashley Ortega of T. A. Sims Elementary School, and Christopher Allen of Edward J. Briscoe Elementary School; and WHEREAS, Runners-up include Anisha Karmakar of William James Middle School, Brittany Jackson of Carroll Peak Elementary School, Dontee Kinney of S. S. Dillow Elementary School, Shelby Williams of Eastern Hills Elementary School, Danae Daugherty of East Handley Elementary School, William Brown of Morningside Elementary School, Richard Ramirez of T. A. Sims Elementary School, and Vennidelle Cleckley of Edward J. Briscoe Elementary School; and WHEREAS, All of these talented young Texans have exhibited superior spelling ability, dedication, and drive, and their outstanding success is indeed worthy of special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby honor all of the Area II participants in the Fort Worth Independent School District's 2002 spelling bee contest and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for these fine young people as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
