CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, A great Texan, Ross Snodgrass of Kerrville, was born
on May 12, 1903, on the Divide near Mountain Home, Texas, and he
remains a blessing to all who know him 100 years after his birth;
and
WHEREAS, The son of V. B. Snodgrass, Sr., and Mary Georgiana
Hatch Snodgrass, he was reared on a ranch with his six siblings, all
of whom were inspired by their parents' pioneer spirit and
determination to leave the world a better place than they found it;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Snodgrass was taught the value of hard work from
an early age, regularly accompanying his father on 100-mile trips
to Kerrville by wagon to purchase enough supplies to last the family
six months; not surprisingly, he and his brothers, Bryce and
Volney, became top-notch cowboys, and Mr. Snodgrass forever secured
his place in the annals of Kerrville history when he participated in
the last cattle drive to Kerr County in 1925; and
WHEREAS, On July 1, 1933, at a tiny church in Comfort, Mr.
Snodgrass took Clarabelle Victoria Barton as his bride, and this
devoted husband loves to joke that they have now been married longer
than many people live; the couple met at a dance and, during their
first 10 years of marriage, had a dance band named The
Whippoorwills, and they can still "cut a rug" together to this day;
the two owned T and Lazy T Ranch where they resided and ranched
until moving to Kerrville on their retirement in 1968; and
WHEREAS, At 100 years of age, Mr. Snodgrass has no aches or
pains, enjoys a flourishing mind, possesses a zest for living, and
does not take his longevity for granted, having suffered a serious
bout with anthrax during the 1920s; the love, wit, encouragement,
and inspiration of this beloved gentleman continue to be a
priceless treasure to his wife, to his children, Jeri and David
Snodgrass, and to his many other relatives and friends, and it is a
pleasure to join them in honoring this distinguished native son of
the Lone Star State as he commemorates a century of life well lived;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby honor Ross Snodgrass on the momentous occasion of his 100th
birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Snodgrass as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
