CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The passing of Jesse W. Orr on April 18, 2003, at the
age of 64, has brought a great loss to the many relatives and
friends of this esteemed citizen of Birthright; and
WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Orr was born September 28, 1938,
in Birthright, the son of Jess and Mae Dee Reed Orr, and he was a
graduate of North Hopkins High School; he was retired from his
career as the long-time owner and operator of the Jess Orr Store,
which had been in his family for more than 70 years at the time of
its sale; and
WHEREAS, This fine man was also a dedicated civic leader who
served his fellow citizens as a Hopkins County justice of the peace
for 28 years; his notable contributions to his community included
serving as president and director of the Texas Rural Water
Association, director of the Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce,
and president of the North Hopkins Water Supply Corporation; in
recognition of his myriad civic accomplishments, he was deservedly
honored as a recipient of the Outstanding Citizen Award by the
Hopkins County Rural Urban Association during his lifetime; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby pay tribute to the life of Jesse W. Orr and extend sincere
sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Jorene Jones
Orr; to his children, Charles Carns, Cindy Thomison, and Brenda
O'Brien; to his brother and sister-in-law, J. Kin and Rosemary Orr;
to his six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and to the
other relatives and many friends of this beloved gentleman; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House
of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory
of Jesse W. Orr.
