CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
	WHEREAS, Jack Dale has retired from his position as sports 
announcer for Texas Tech University, bringing to a close a 
remarkable association with that fine institution that spanned five 
decades; and
	WHEREAS, A native of Kansas, he graduated from Kansas City's 
Pathfinder School of Radio Announcing and worked at radio stations 
in Topeka and Altus, Oklahoma, before coming to Texas in December 
1952; and
	WHEREAS, During the span between his first basketball game 
with Texas Tech against Flagstaff State on January 6, 1953, and his 
last on April 3, 2003, when the Raiders triumphed in the consolation 
game of the 2003 National Invitational Tournament at Madison Square 
Garden, Mr. Dale provided color commentary or play-by-play for 
approximately 1,350 men's basketball games, 520 Texas Tech or other 
Southwest Conference schools' football games, and nearly 50 games 
each of Texas Tech baseball and Lady Raiders basketball; and
	WHEREAS, In recognition of his enduring association with the 
Texas Tech University athletic department, Mr. Dale was elected to 
the Texas Tech Athletic Hall of Honor; he also received an 
Outstanding Alumni Award from the Ex-Students Association and was 
awarded an honorary degree from the university; and
	WHEREAS, Jack Dale is a Lone Star legend in the field of 
sports announcing, for his inherent grasp of sports and powerful 
descriptions have delighted fans of Texas Tech University athletics 
for half a century; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas 
hereby congratulate Jack Dale on his 50-year tenure as the voice of 
the Texas Tech University Red Raiders and extend to him sincere best 
wishes for a happy and rewarding retirement; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Mr. Dale as an expression of high regard by the Texas 
House of Representatives and Senate.
