A JOINT RESOLUTION
proposing a constitutional amendment relating to a right of
privacy.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Article I of the Texas Constitution is amended
by adding Section 8a to read as follows:
Sec. 8a. The right of every individual to privacy is
recognized and may not be infringed without the showing of a
compelling state interest that may not be achieved in a less
intrusive and more reasonable manner.
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 4, 2003.
The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against the
proposition: "The constitutional amendment recognizing a personal
right of privacy."
