R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Norma Paschal of Universal City dedicated her life to the children of Texas by teaching for more than 25 years in the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District; and WHEREAS, Joining the district in 1968, Mrs. Paschal served as the only nurse for all SCUCISD campuses, where she worked with disadvantaged children to make education a priority; her enthusiasm and energy made her a driving force behind many school spirit activities; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Paschal established the Health Occupations Program at Samuel Clemens High School in Schertz, which was ranked number one in the nation for three consecutive years; and WHEREAS, Involved in numerous service and professional organizations, Mrs. Paschal served on the Alamo Area Council of Governments and the March of Dimes board of directors and with the American Heart Association, the Texas War on Drugs, the American Lung Association, the South Texas Regional Blood Bank, and the Special Olympics; and WHEREAS, This beloved woman was the recipient of many awards, including the Texas and National Health Occupations Teacher of the Year, SCUCISD Teacher of the Year, SCUCISD Hall of Honor Charter Member, and SCUCISD Volunteer of the Year, and the SCUCISD Norma Paschal Commitment to Children Award was named in her honor; and WHEREAS, For her years of commitment to the students of the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District, a new elementary school, which will open in the fall of 2003, will be dedicated to and named for her; and WHEREAS, This inspirational woman truly embodied the spirit of service and dedication to learning that is the hallmark of a great teacher, and her unwavering devotion will not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby honor the memory of Norma Paschal for her many years of exemplary teaching and service to the children of Texas; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Norma Paschal.
