H.R. No. 20 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor Jim Biggerstaff for his many contributions to the quality of life in his Plano community; and WHEREAS, A resident of that North Texas city for four decades, this highly regarded businessman and civic leader has devoted half a century to the florist profession, the majority as owner and operator of Biggerstaff Flowers, a successful business he recently closed in order to focus on his health; and WHEREAS, Known for the creativity and imagination reflected in his floral creations, Mr. Biggerstaff takes pride in the care and personal touch he provided his customers; and WHEREAS, Mr. Biggerstaff's deep dedication to his community leads him to give of his time and talents to many worthy endeavors, including the Collin County Community College Board of Trustees and Plano's Transition and Revitalization Commission; in 1995, he was appointed by Mayor John Longstreet to head the East Plano Task Force, which developed a number of major proposals, including one for the city's vital research and technology district; his volunteerism also has benefited many additional organizations, including the Crisis Center of Collin County, the Plano Chamber of Commerce, and the Plano Economic Development Board; and WHEREAS, In recognition of his leadership and commitment to his fellow Texans, he was named Plano Citizen of the Year in 1999, and Mayor Pat Evans proclaimed July 22-27, 2002, as "Jim Biggerstaff Week"; also in 2002, the city council announced plans for a new city plaza to be named for Mr. Biggerstaff and located at the site of his original Plano flower shop; and WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Jim Biggerstaff has exemplified the virtues of dedication, integrity, and compassion as a businessman and civic leader, and he serves as a source of inspiration to all who know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commend Jim Biggerstaff for his exemplary contributions to his fellow citizens and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Biggerstaff as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
