H.R. No. 30 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, For more than 26 years the Nucor Steel Bar Mill Group in Jewett has greatly benefited Leon County by providing jobs, ensuring a safe work environment, and helping to protect the vital natural resources of our state; and WHEREAS, Nucor's Jewett facility recycles 750,000 tons of scrap metal each year, diverting it from our state's landfills; a major upgrade to this plant will raise this capacity to one million tons of recycled steel per year, helping to make Nucor the largest recycler in the nation; and WHEREAS, The company has been certified by the International Organization for Standardization for implementing internationally accepted practices to ensure exceptional operations and service; and WHEREAS, Among Nucor mills, the Jewett location has achieved the best safety record, including an outstanding performance by employees in the roll mills, the melting and casting shop, and the environmental, finance, lab, shipping, traffic, and maintenance departments; and WHEREAS, The company is an asset to the community of Jewett and to the State of Texas; it strives to save energy and help the earth, while boosting the local economy and providing a much needed product; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commend the Nucor Steel Bar Mill Group in Jewett and its employees for their outstanding safety record and for their commitment to preserving and protecting the natural resources of Texas; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the employees of the Nucor Steel Bar Mill Group in Jewett as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
