R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Jim Darsey, vice president and general manager of
the Nucor Steel Bar Mill Group in Jewett, sets an example as a
business and community leader that is truly worthy of recognition;
and
WHEREAS, A fourth-generation Texan, Mr. Darsey has a proud
business heritage; Darsey's General Merchandise, his family's
company, which was established in 1875, is one of the oldest
family-owned businesses in Texas; and
WHEREAS, Under Mr. Darsey's leadership, the Nucor Steel Bar
Mill Group is having a positive influence on the Texas economy and
environment; the Nucor facility recycles more than 750,000 tons of
scrap metal each year and has adopted internationally accepted
business practices that ensure the highest operating standards; it
is bringing millions of dollars into Leon County and is aiding in
the preservation of the natural surroundings; and
WHEREAS, In an effort to spread environmental awareness, Mr.
Darsey convened a pioneering recycling symposium in the state to
focus on developing new and better ways to promote reuse, recovery,
and recycling policies and programs; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Darsey also has maintained Nucor Steel's
commitment to public education by providing scholarship programs
for employees and their children; and
WHEREAS, The leader of a company recognized for its superior
service and environmentally friendly performance, Mr. Darsey has
helped to improve the quality of life for many of his fellow Texans;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby commend Jim Darsey for his outstanding
contributions to the environmental and economic well-being of Texas
and for his commitment to his employees and the local community, and
extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Darsey as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
