R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes pleasure in welcoming a visiting delegation from Catholic Charities and salutes the members of the organization for their many good works over the years; and WHEREAS, Present in dioceses across Texas, and the Archdiocese of San Antonio, Catholic Charities extends to persons of all races, religions, and socioeconomic backgrounds the healing power of faith as well as tangible assistance, with the goal of helping them reach self-sufficiency; and WHEREAS, Among the many programs and services provided by Catholic Charities are adoption, basic personal-living needs, counseling, disaster response, education and enrichment, housing, food bank, health, refugee, and social support, and in 2001 alone the organization aided more than 325,000 individuals; and WHEREAS, In addition to its assistance programs, Catholic Charities is a continuing advocate of social justice and seeks to empower communities through action and education with the guiding principle of ensuring basic human dignity for all; and WHEREAS, Catholic Charities, in concert with health and human services agencies, has offered many Texans the support and direction they need to secure a brighter future, and the organization's humanitarianism enriches us all; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby extend a warm welcome to the members of the Catholic Charities delegation on the occasion of their visit to the State Capitol and commend all those associated with the organization for their ongoing efforts to make a positive difference in the lives of others; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Catholic Charities as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
