R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, George Denton Farr, Sr., longtime president and chief executive officer of Children's Medical Center of Dallas, assumed the position of president of the CMCD Foundation in 2002, and the occasion provides a fitting opportunity to recognize a notable Texas leader; and WHEREAS, After joining Children's in 1977 as chief operating officer and executive vice president, Mr. Farr was made president and chief executive officer in July 1985; during his outstanding 25-year tenure, he has played an instrumental role in establishing Children's Medical Center as one of the country's leading pediatric institutions; and WHEREAS, Mr. Farr graduated with a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Mississippi State University in 1963 and earned his master of science degree in hospital administration from the University of Alabama in 1968; and WHEREAS, In addition to his career at Children's, Mr. Farr has served in teaching positions at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Washington University School of Medicine; and WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman has given generously of his time to his community, serving on many boards and assisting organizations whose primary aim is the betterment of children's lives, including the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas and the Children's Miracle Network; and WHEREAS, An active participant in a number of professional organizations, Mr. Farr is presently a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Hospital Association, and the Association of Texas Hospitals and Health Care Organizations; he also holds the distinction of having served as the first president of the Children's Hospital Association of Texas; and WHEREAS, In 2001, thanks in large measure to Mr. Farr's skilled guidance, Children's Medical Center was named by Child magazine as one of the 10 best pediatric hospitals in the nation; Mr. Farr himself has been recognized by his community for his exceptional efforts in behalf of children, receiving the Jess Hay Award from The Child Care Group, a Distinguished Service Award from the Child and Family Guidance Center, the Boone Powell, Sr. Award of Excellence from the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council, and the Bill and Angela Barrett Award for Loving Kids from Meeting Professionals International; and WHEREAS, Active in his church and devoted to his wife and children, Mr. Farr is a firm believer in the importance of faith and family; he is married to Wanda and blessed with four children: Ashley; Lisa, married to Patrick Neal and mother of Connor and Cooper; Shanon, married to Michael Patrick and mother of MacKenzie and Michael; and Denton, married to Marie and father of Will and Hannah; and WHEREAS, Through his exemplary efforts in the field of health care and his immeasurable contributions to Children's Medical Center of Dallas, Mr. Farr has truly made a positive impact on countless lives, and the legacy of his hard work, commitment, and creativity will continue to benefit his community for years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature commend George Denton Farr, Sr., for his exceptional leadership at Children's Medical Center of Dallas and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in his position as president of the CMCD Foundation; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Farr as an expression of high regard from the Texas House of Representatives.
