H.R. No. 48
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of Richard Blevins of
Waxahachie were profoundly saddened when this esteemed gentleman
passed away on January 12, 2003, at the age of 72; and
WHEREAS, Born on May 1, 1930, Mr. Blevins obtained his early
education in Waxahachie and graduated from high school in 1947; he
then studied at Rice University, Southwestern University, Southern
Methodist University, and The University of Texas, ultimately
earning a master's degree in business administration; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Blevins, a member of the Naval ROTC while
attending Rice University, answered his country's call to military
duty during the Korean War; he was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska,
and attained the rank of staff sergeant in the Air Force; and
WHEREAS, In the 1960s, Mr. Blevins began his 32-year career
as a program manager with LTV/Northrop Grumman; he was well
respected in his field and counted as one of his greatest career
achievements the planning and construction of Crestview Nursing
Home in Bryan; and
WHEREAS, A devout member of the First United Methodist Church
for many years and, more recently, the Waxahachie Bible Church, Mr.
Blevins shared his faith with others as a prison chaplain, Sunday
school teacher, and mentor; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his lifetime, Richard Blevins worked
tirelessly to serve his faith, family, and community; though his
absence is widely mourned, his spirit will continue to live in the
hearts of those individuals who were fortunate enough to have known
him; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Richard Blevins and
extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife
of 52 years, Jane Blevins; to his three children and their spouses,
Steve and Karen Blevins, Phil and Lori Blevins, and Lisa and Scott
Crouch; to his grandchildren, Ami and Jay Trull, Kelsi and Kevin
Crouch, and Mason, Stefanie, Ashley, and Ali Blevins; to his
step-grandchildren, Aaron and Lucas Anderson; to his brother, Carl
Blevins, and his wife, Evelyn; to his sister, Evelyn Claunch; to his
nieces and nephews; and to his other relatives and numerous
friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the members of his family, and that when the Texas
House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
Richard Blevins.
