R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On this day, January 28, 2003, members of the Texas Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, formerly the Texas Association of Life Underwriters, are visiting the State Capitol, and this occasion provides a fitting opportunity to recognize TAIFA's esteemed president, Michael E. Myers; and WHEREAS, An Illinois native, Mr. Myers moved extensively around West Texas and the Southwest during his childhood, after attending 13 schools in the course of 12 years, and he graduated from high school in Pampa; he earned a bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University in 1969 and served two years as an officer in the United States Army, including one tour of duty in Vietnam; and WHEREAS, This long-time Texan joined the insurance industry in 1971 and has earned the respect and admiration of his many colleagues; he is an insurance specialist at the Southwest Insurance Agency making his home in Fort Worth and is an avid supporter of the city and its rich culture and heritage; and WHEREAS, Mr. Myers is a former president of the Fort Worth General Agency Managers Association and the Fort Worth Association of Life Underwriters; he was elected as president of TAIFA in June 2002, and he is the first person associated with a New York Stock Exchange securities firm to hold that position with the organization; in addition, he is a member and past president of the Fort Worth Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, as well as a member of the TAIFA Political Action Committee and the Texas Leaders Round Table; and WHEREAS, Named the Outstanding Regional Director of TAIFA in 1998 and selected to receive the Career Service Award from the Fort Worth chapter of TAIFA in 1999, Mr. Myers has truly excelled in his profession, and it is a pleasure to honor his many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby honor Michael E. Myers, president of the Texas Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Myers as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
