H.R. No. 80 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Michael Lawrence Harris of Houston has been chosen to receive an Outstanding Texan award by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus in recognition of his many notable professional achievements and contributions to his community; and WHEREAS, The Outstanding Texan award was created to honor individuals who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to improving, developing, and enriching the lives of others; and WHEREAS, A well-known disc jockey at KCOH, Mr. Harris is in his 30th year of filling the airwaves of Houston radio; he is the host of "Person to Person" and the popular "Gospel Melody Time" and also serves as the station's news director; and WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman has received numerous accolades for his work in broadcasting, including being named Top Jock by the Houston Chronicle and Houston's Best Talk Show Host by the Houston Press; in addition, he has been recognized by the NAACP for his work toward racial unity and understanding, and he received that organization's Martin Luther King Humanitarian Award; and WHEREAS, Born and raised in Texas, Mr. Harris studied radio and television at the University of Houston, where he was a founding member of the UH Crescendos and a member of the Black Student Union; he is a devoted husband to his wife, Dyetta, a proud father of two daughters, Allessundra and Vanetria, and a faithful member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ; and WHEREAS, Mr. Harris has proven himself to be a compelling voice on Houston's airwaves, encouraging his many listeners to think, question, and learn; his many accomplishments and his commitment to furthering racial understanding and promoting unity have indeed made this gentleman worthy of special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Michael Lawrence Harris on being named an Outstanding Texan by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus and extend to him sincere best wishes for success and happiness in his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Harris as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
