R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, McKinney's 2001 Outstanding Citizen of the Year, William Carey Cox, Sr., died on July 28, 2002, at the age of 61, and his passing has been deeply felt throughout the community he was proud to call home; and WHEREAS, After graduating from Lamar University in 1962, Mr. Cox began his career by partnering with his father as a co-owner of Cox Chevrolet in McKinney; he sold the dealership in 1977 and embarked on a career in real estate, founding the Carey Cox Co., which specialized in commercial and industrial real estate; and WHEREAS, A dedicated volunteer who led by example, he gave generously of his time and talents in support of numerous charitable organizations; he was a Paul Harris Fellow and former president of Rotary International and the local United Way board and had served as a board member of the Boys & Girls Club and the Red Cross; feeling it was his honor and responsibility to serve others, he was an active congregant of the First United Methodist Church, where he lived his faith as a youth counselor, Sunday school teacher, choir member, and lay speaker; and WHEREAS, Figuring prominently among his many accomplishments was his role in cofounding Collin County Community College in 1985; the school's first board chairman, who held the post until stepping down in 2000, he oversaw its development into a highly respected educational institution, and he earned the lasting admiration of the community for his visionary leadership; and WHEREAS, Selected to serve as an Olympic torchbearer on December 12, 2001, William Carey Cox, Sr., truly embodied the Olympic spirit and inspired all who knew him, and the legacy of achievement he left behind will not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of William Carey Cox, Sr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of 26 years, Judy Cox; to his children and their spouses, Tim and Tisha Cox, Thomas Cox, Bill and Wendy Cox, David and Stefanie Cox, and Ginny and Dale Mullis; to his sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Ed Sharp; to his father-in-law, Laud Howell; to his grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of William Carey Cox, Sr. Madden Paxton ______________________________ Speaker of the House I certify that H.R.
