R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A 90th birthday is truly cause for a celebration,
and on February 5, 2003, Jewel Samford of Center is marking this
special milestone in her life; and
WHEREAS, An alumna of Stephen F. Austin State University,
from which she earned bachelor's and master's degrees in education,
Mrs. Samford is a retired educator whose notable career spanned
more than four decades; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to teaching Shelby County children to
read, this exemplary professional served on the staffs of Mount
Pleasant, Crockett, and Center elementary schools; today, she
continues promoting literacy by tutoring her fellow residents at
Green Acres; in addition, she enjoys such leisure pursuits as
crocheting, birding, playing dominoes and 42, and walking; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Samford and her husband, Gene, enjoyed a close
and fulfilling marriage until his passing; she is a devoted mother
to her daughter, Judy Hilton, who is also a retired educator, and
takes great pride in her three grandchildren, Mandy Hilton, Tanya
Madden, and Jacqueline Roberson; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Jewel Samford has continually
demonstrated a selfless commitment to others, and her birthday
provides a fitting opportunity to recognize her for the positive
impact she has had on the countless individuals whose lives she has
touched; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Jewel Samford on the joyous
occasion of her 90th birthday and extend to her heartfelt wishes for
continued happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Samford as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
