R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Advisory Council of the Lively Park Senior Activity Center of Irving has dedicated significant time and energy to meeting the needs of senior citizens in the Metroplex, and it is a pleasure to welcome this group to Austin for Senior Day at the Capitol; and WHEREAS, In the mid-1970s, the Irving Parks and Recreation Department took notice of the growing need for a senior citizen facility and established the Senter Park Senior Center; the center held classes, organized fun and educational events for area seniors, and offered popular programs sponsored by the state Area Agencies on Aging; and WHEREAS, The continued growth of the senior population in Irving prompted the creation of the Lively Park Senior Activity Center in 1988; adopting a new name, the facility continues to offer many of the programs available at Senter Park, while consistently introducing innovative new ideas; and WHEREAS, The center has hosted visitors from across the nation and the world who wish to replicate the success of Lively Park; its ever-growing popularity has led to yet another expansion, with an impressive new facility currently under construction; and WHEREAS, Lively Park Senior Activity Center has truly benefited the senior population of Irving and, thanks to the hard work and commitment of the advisory council, this exemplary facility will continue to enrich the lives of seniors for many years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby welcome the members of the Lively Park Senior Activity Center Advisory Council and commend them for their dedication to the senior citizens of Irving; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the advisory council as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
