H.R. No. 122
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in
American higher education and the Texas region of this esteemed
organization is providing important services for members in the
Lone Star State; and
WHEREAS, In 1929, the American Association of Community
Colleges recognized Phi Theta Kappa as the official honor society
for two-year colleges, and in 2000 the Association of College Honor
Societies recognized the organization as the general scholarship
honor society serving associate degree granting institutions; and
WHEREAS, The goal of this notable honor society is to
recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college
students by providing opportunities for the development of
leadership and service, creating an intellectual climate for
exchange of ideas and ideals, and stimulating interest in
continuing academic excellence; and
WHEREAS, Today the group boasts more than 1.3 million members
and 1,100 chapters located throughout the U.S., Canada, Germany,
and Japan; the complement of services, innovative programs, and
membership benefits offered by Phi Theta Kappa are exemplary among
honor societies; and
WHEREAS, The Texas Region of Phi Theta Kappa includes 83
chapters from across the Lone Star State, with 8,672 members
inducted in 2002 alone; this group has exhibited a strong
commitment to furthering the Phi Theta Kappa goals, and for their
leadership they are indeed deserving of recognition; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby commend the Texas regional members, officers,
and advisors of Phi Theta Kappa for their dedication to academic
excellence and extend to them best wishes for a happy and successful
future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Texas Region of Phi Theta Kappa as an expression of
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
