H.R. No. 135


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Jesse Hornbuckle of Dallas has been chosen by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus to receive an Outstanding Texan Award for his significant contributions to the community; and WHEREAS, The Outstanding Texan Award was created to honor individuals who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to improving, developing, and enriching the lives of others; and WHEREAS, A Dallas native, Mr. Hornbuckle studied photography at The University of Texas at Arlington and interned with the San Antonio Light and the Los Angeles Times before accepting a position as a staff photographer with the Dallas Times Herald; four years later, the newspaper was sold, which inspired this visionary gentleman to change the focus of his career; and WHEREAS, He opened Jesse Hornbuckle Photography in 1991, and in the ensuing years, his work has won the attention of Fortune 500 companies, advertising agencies, national magazines, politicians, and entertainers and has been featured in Black Enterprise, Business Week, D Magazine, Ebony, Jet, and Our Texas; and WHEREAS, Nominated for the prestigious Pulitzer Prize in 1990, Mr. Hornbuckle has garnered wide recognition for his photographic works, including first-place awards from the Dallas/Fort Worth Association of Black Communicators and the National Association of Black Journalists Region VII; and WHEREAS, In addition to being a successful entrepreneur, Mr. Hornbuckle is also a respected civic leader and volunteer; for more than 10 years, he has given generously of his time and expertise as a participant in the R. C. Hickman Photographers Workshop, and he regularly funds scholarships through the DFW/ABC, a journalism organization in Dallas that granted him a scholarship while he was a student; and WHEREAS, Jesse Hornbuckle is a man of integrity, determination, foresight, and dedication to the betterment of his fellowman, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring him on his most recent accomplishment; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Jesse Hornbuckle on being named an Outstanding Texan by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus and extend to him sincere best wishes for success and happiness in his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Hornbuckle as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
