R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, February 5, 2003, marks the 83rd birthday of Robert Perez Puente of San Antonio, and this occasion offers a fitting opportunity to honor this remarkable man and to recognize his myriad accomplishments; and WHEREAS, Born February 5, 1920, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, Mr. Puente came to the United States in 1948, traveling to Michigan to work in the Detroit auto industry; and WHEREAS, It was during his years as an auto worker that he met, fell in love with, and married his wife Herlinda; together they had six children: Linda Puente Talbott, Robert Phillip Puente, Julie Puente Salas, who shares her father's birthday, Maria Elena Puente Lopez, Robert Richard Puente, and Carol Puente Urritia; and WHEREAS, In 1954, Mr. Puente suffered a tragic accident at the auto factory where he was employed, and he and his family returned to Mexico to be nearer his family; several years later, the family relocated to the United States once again, this time settling permanently in San Antonio; and WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Herlinda Puente four years later left this hard-working man as the single parent of six children, and despite offers of assistance from his loved ones to reduce his heavy workload by splitting up the children, he found the strength and determination to keep the family together; and WHEREAS, Mr. Puente found love again and married Ester Ipina Puente several years later, and since that time the Puente family has grown to include 23 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, In 1983, Mr. Puente retired from Smith Chevrolet, bringing to a close a career characterized by integrity and dedication; he spends his golden years in the embrace of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, reminiscing about his rich and rewarding life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to Robert Perez Puente on the occasion of his 83rd birthday and extend to him best wishes for a joyful and memorable birthday celebration; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Puente as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
