H.R. No. 140
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Luis Mata of El Paso has long benefited his fellow
citizens through his steadfast support of numerous worthy
organizations at the local, state, and national levels; and
WHEREAS, This accomplished gentleman is a graduate of The
University of Texas at El Paso, where he earned his bachelor's
degree in business administration, specializing in management; he
and his wife Esther are the proud parents of two sons, Abraham and
Adam; and
WHEREAS, An El Paso native, Mr. Mata is a valued state
employee who participates in the United Way State Employees
Charitable Campaign and has devoted 13 years of employment to the
Texas Department of Agriculture and the past eight years to the
Texas Workers' Compensation Commission; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mata has led the El Paso Del Norte Tejano
Democrats since 1996, and he continues to excel in that role,
drawing on the wealth of experience he has gained over the years
through his active participation in numerous campaigns at the
local, state, and federal level for Democratic candidates and his
former employment with United States Representative Ron Coleman;
and
WHEREAS, His diverse and meaningful contributions to the El
Paso community include his service as a member of the advisory board
of the Government Employees Credit Union and his tenure as a civil
service commissioner for the City of El Paso; in addition, he has
been instrumental in encouraging voting among the community's
Hispanic citizens; and
WHEREAS, Luis Mata is a public-spirited Texan who continues
to play an active role in civic and political affairs, and his many
good works have made him a role model to all who know him; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to Luis Mata for his longtime
commitment to political and civic causes and extend sincere best
wishes to him for continued success and happiness; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Mata as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
