R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Claudette Cochrane Lewis of San Antonio has been chosen to receive a 2003 Outstanding Texan Award from the Texas Legislative Black Caucus in recognition of her many notable contributions in the field of education; and WHEREAS, The Outstanding Texan Award was created to honor individuals who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to improving, developing, and enriching the lives of others; and WHEREAS, Ms. Lewis has benefited her community through the founding of the Cherice Cochrane Mentoring Foundation; by providing mentors to young people, this valuable organization has helped students improve their attendance and grades, develop better social skills, and avoid drug use and other inappropriate behavior; and WHEREAS, A Girl Scout leader for more than 30 years, Ms. Lewis has been recognized with a host of accolades for her extensive community service; among her many honors are the Outstanding Leader and Appreciation awards from the Girl Scouts, the 1999 United Way Volunteer of the Year Award, and the 1999 Top Lady of the Year Award; and WHEREAS, Ms. Lewis has positively impacted the lives of countless young people, and her commitment and hard work in the field of education have made her community a much better place in which to live; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Claudette Cochrane Lewis on her receipt of an Outstanding Texan Award from the Texas Legislative Black Caucus and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Lewis as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
