R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Veatrice Williams has been selected by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus to receive a 2003 Outstanding Texan Award for her significant contributions in the field of community service; and WHEREAS, The Outstanding Texan Award was created to honor individuals who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to improving, developing, and enriching the lives of others; and WHEREAS, A highly successful businesswoman, Ms. Williams has been the owner of three outpatient physical therapy clinics, Mobile Physical Therapy, Inc., the East San Antonio Physical Therapy Clinic, and the South San Antonio Physical Therapy Clinic, and the co-owner of Innovative Healthcare Designs; she also founded her own destination management company, Alamo City Heritage Tours; and WHEREAS, Her interest in the hospitality industry led her to serve on the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Advisory Board for six years, and as chair of its multicultural marketing committee she dramatically raised the level of awareness of the city's Martin Luther King Holiday celebration; and WHEREAS, She has also found time to participate in a variety of other worthy civic and professional organizations, many of which she helped found or served in leadership roles, including the San Antonio Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, San Antonio Transportation Advisory Board, San Antonio YWCA, Casey Family Program Advisory Board, American Academy of Physical Therapy, Texas Network of Minority Physical Therapists, National Coalition of Black Meeting Planners, Oak Hills Rotary Club, and San Pedro Playhouse Board; and WHEREAS, A proud mother of three, this inspirational individual earned her bachelor's degree in physical therapy from Texas Woman's University and went on to attain a master's degree in special education from The University of Texas at Austin; and WHEREAS, Ms. Williams has consistently applied her time and energy to benefit her fellow citizens, and it is indeed appropriate to recognize her many significant contributions at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Veatrice Williams on her receipt of a 2003 Outstanding Texan Award from the Texas Legislative Black Caucus and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Williams as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
