R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Eugene Everett Coleman of San Antonio has been chosen to receive an Outstanding Texan Award from the Texas Legislative Black Caucus in recognition of his many notable contributions in the field of business; and WHEREAS, The Outstanding Texan Award was created to honor individuals who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to improving, developing, and enriching the lives of others; and WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas Southern University and a longtime member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Mr. Coleman began his distinguished record of entrepreneurship in the late 1940s, when he opened Coleman Studio in the St. Paul Square area; later, he co-founded Snap News, a valuable news source and voice for San Antonio's civil rights movement; and WHEREAS, Mr. Coleman has effectively utilized his professional skills and experience to benefit his community; he has successfully managed the political campaigns of minority candidates, promoted the African-American community through pageants and parades and, notably, organized the first United Negro College Fund fund-raising banquet; and WHEREAS, A charter member and former president of the Alamo City Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Coleman was a primary organizer of the Alamo City Lion's Club and the impetus behind Project ABLE; he also participated in a delegation that secured community action grants from President Lyndon B. Johnson; and WHEREAS, Mr. Coleman has been a successful businessman and civil rights activist for more than half a century; through his dedication and tireless efforts, he has greatly improved the lives of his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Eugene Everett Coleman for being named an Outstanding Texan by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus and extend to him warmest wishes for success and happiness in the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Coleman as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
