H.R. No. 153
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Ashley Phillips has been selected by the Texas
Legislative Black Caucus to receive a 2003 Outstanding Texan Award
in the Youth category; and
WHEREAS, The Outstanding Texan Award was created to honor
individuals who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to
improving, developing, and enriching the lives of others; and
WHEREAS, A student at Incarnate Word High School, where she
is senior class president, Ms. Phillips's pursuit of academic
excellence has enabled her to maintain an A-plus grade point
average and earned her membership in the National Honor Society and
National High School Scholars of America; after graduation she
plans to attend college with the goal of becoming a television
broadcaster; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Phillips also finds time to participate in a
variety of worthy civic organizations, including the NAACP Youth
Council, the Knights of Peter Clavor, and Delteens; a person of
abiding faith, she attends Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and serves
the congregation as a member of the church youth group and church
youth choir; and
WHEREAS, This notable young Texan's determination to excel
combined with her desire to make a positive contribution to her
community are an inspiration to all who know her, and it is indeed
appropriate that she be honored at this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Ashley Phillips on her receipt of a
2003 Outstanding Texan Award from the Texas Legislative Black
Caucus and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success
and happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Phillips as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
