R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On January 11, 2003, the Southwest Texas State University (SWT) All-Women Cheerleading Squad took first place honors at the Universal Cheerleading Association's College Cheerleading National Championship in Orlando, Florida; and WHEREAS, The cheerleaders of SWT competed against squads from universities across the United States to become national champions for the second time in the past four years; squad members include Michelle Anderson, Nicole Bourgault, Beth Bowe, Rachel Cain, Chantall Canales, Heather Cannon, Crystal Childs, Angel Coleman, Missy De Luna, Kimberly Gonze, Brittin Gough, Shelby Harmon, Christin Lampard, Evie McCain, Kimberly Mecke, Starr Parnell, Rachel Schmitt, Christina Vargas, and Cassie Ward; and WHEREAS, Committing themselves to their sport, these dedicated young women spend much of the December school holiday training and perfecting performance routines; and WHEREAS, In addition to their extensive preparation for competition, this outstanding group supports Southwest Texas State University athletic teams and works with numerous campus outreach groups, including Alumni Affairs, the Parents' Association, and New Student Orientation; and WHEREAS, Under the able guidance of coach Jason Anderson and captain Missy De Luna, the SWT All-Women Cheerleading Squad has yet again become champion in competition and school spirit; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the Southwest Texas State University All-Women Cheerleading Squad on being named national champions and extend to them best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for each member of the squad as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
