R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Agustin Nakamoto, Jr., of the El Paso Fire Department, has dedicated his life to serving his community, and in recognition of his valuable contributions he has been named Firefighter of the Year for 2002 by the American Legion; and WHEREAS, The son of a firefighter, Lieutenant Nakamoto has been a member of the local emergency response community since 1980 and is a 1982 graduate of the El Paso Fire Department Training Academy; he has also furthered his education at the National Fire Training Academy in Maryland, and he is certified as a master firefighter and Texas peace officer; and WHEREAS, During his distinguished career with the El Paso Fire Department, Lieutenant Nakamoto has worked in the fire marshal division and the fire prevention division, during which period he was selected to participate in the revision of city fire ordinances and amendments to the fire prevention code; he went on to serve with distinction in the fire suppression division and is currently stationed at Pumper Company 30 in Northeast El Paso; and WHEREAS, Through the years Lieutenant Nakamoto has excelled at each new assignment he has been given, whether helping to educate the community about the proper handling of hazardous materials or educating young people about fire safety at schools in the El Paso, Ysleta, and Socorro independent school districts; and WHEREAS, In addition, Lieutenant Nakamoto has ably served this country as a member of the New Mexico National Guard since 1977, and he also makes time in his busy schedule to serve his community through his involvement in many worthy local initiatives; and WHEREAS, This dedicated public servant has earned the lasting respect and admiration of his fellow citizens, and his outstanding service to the community continues to benefit countless individuals; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Lieutenant Agustin Nakamoto, Jr., for being named 2002 Firefighter of the Year by the American Legion and extend to him sincere best wishes for success and happiness in all his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Lieutenant Nakamoto as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
