                                                                  H.R. No. 163



R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, Marquita Christian of Hutchins has been named an 
Outstanding Texan by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus in 
recognition of her many achievements as a student; and
	WHEREAS, Ms. Christian, a junior at Wilmer-Hutchins High 
School, is an outstanding student whose serious commitment to 
education has resulted in her being ranked first in her class; and
	WHEREAS, In addition to excelling academically, this highly 
motivated young woman is involved in numerous extracurricular 
activities, including the science club, varsity track and field, 
and cross-country; she has also served her fellow students as a 
member of student government; and
	WHEREAS, Ms. Christian contributes to her community as an 
active volunteer, lending her time to Bryan's House, a facility 
dedicated to caring for children affected by HIV, and area 
churches; and
	WHEREAS, Finding strength and inspiration in her faith, Ms. 
Christian is a devoted member of her church and enjoys attending 
Youth for Christ events and conferences; and
	WHEREAS, Marquita Christian is a young woman of immense 
ability and potential; she already demonstrates the initiative and 
maturity of a leader and is well on her way to a bright and promising 
future; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas 
Legislature congratulate Marquita Christian of Hutchins on being 
named an Outstanding Texan by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus 
and extend to her best wishes for success and happiness in all 
future endeavors; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Ms. Christian as an expression of high regard by the 
Texas House of Representatives.
