R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dallas Police Chief Terrell Bolton has been named an Outstanding Texan in the area of public safety by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus; and WHEREAS, A member of the Dallas force since 1980, he held the positions of sergeant, civilian manager, deputy chief, and assistant chief before being named chief of police in 1999; in this capacity he heads a department of more than 3,500 employees who provide police service to a city of more than 1 million residents; and WHEREAS, Chief Bolton has played a vital role in the city's Police Mobile Storefront Program, the Trinity River Corridor Master Implementation Plan, and the Interactive Community Policing Program; he led the public safety section of the City of Dallas Empowerment Zone, an initiative requiring the successful collaboration of multiple local and national entities; and WHEREAS, Born in Richton, Mississippi, this highly regarded professional is a graduate of the Leadership Dallas Class of 1998-1999 and a member of the Jackson State Alumni Association, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, and the Antioch Missionary Fellowship Baptist Church; his civic involvement has included the Southwest Law Enforcement Institute Advisory Board, the Fina Scholar-Athlete Selection Committee, the Volunteer Center of Dallas Award Selection Committee, Special Olympics, the Shining Star Ethics Award Program, and a West Dallas equestrian program for youth; and WHEREAS, During his notable career, Chief Bolton has earned many well-deserved accolades, including the 1991 Oak Cliff Citizen of the Year Award, the 1992 South Dallas Business and Professional Women's Club Man of the Year Award, and more than 50 formal commendations; and it is a great pleasure to recognize him on the receipt of this most recent honor; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Chief Terrell Bolton on being named an Outstanding Texan by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus and extend to him best wishes for future success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Chief Bolton as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
