R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The tragic loss of Stanley Wiley, who was killed in the line of duty on January 29, 2003, has left an immeasurable void in the lives of the family, friends, and colleagues of this beloved public servant; and WHEREAS, Born and raised in Amarillo, Mr. Wiley graduated from Tascosa High School in 1982 and went on to study at Amarillo College; and WHEREAS, He began his career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in June 1994 as a correctional officer at the Bill Clements Unit in Amarillo; he was later promoted to the position of industrial specialist, in which he supervised the prison's boot shop; and WHEREAS, Residents of the Lone Star State are indebted to the men and women of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice who, by their dedication to the public welfare, have enabled us to enjoy the benefits of a peaceful and orderly society; these individuals risk their lives daily in order to ensure the safety of others; and WHEREAS, Mr. Wiley's fine legacy will endure and continue to be a source of inspiration to those who follow in this difficult but essential profession; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby honor the life of Stanley Wiley and extend deepest sympathy to his family: to his father, Herman Wiley; to his sisters, Margaret Robertson and Catherine Nall; to his grandmother, Laverne Powers; to his nieces, Melinda Robertson, Shannon Robertson, and Rachel Nall; to his nephews, David and Michael Nall; and to his many friends and fellow officers; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Stanley Wiley.
