R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, February 9-15, 2003, has been designated Career and Technology Education Week in Texas, and it is important to recognize this vital component of our public education curriculum; and WHEREAS, In the current year alone, nearly 800,000 students will attend career and technology education courses in the Lone Star State; areas of study include agricultural science and technology, business and marketing education, family and consumer sciences education, health science technology, technology education, and trade and industrial education; and WHEREAS, Each of these program areas sponsors a youth organization to teach young people the leadership and life skills they will need to become productive and successful members of society; today we welcome to the house chamber the statewide elected officials of each of these groups: Clay Turner of Alvin, president of Business Professionals of America; David Shelton of Pittsburg, president of Distributive Education Clubs of America; Elda Arzate of El Paso, president of Future Business Leaders of America; Robby Keffer of Eastland, president of Family Career and Community Leaders of America; Kristi Farnum of White Deer, vice president of Family Career and Community Leaders of America; Lindsey Allen of Alvin, president of Future Farmers of America; Dakota Blair of Gary, president of Technology Students Association; William McCormick of Raymondville, president of Health Occupations Students of America; Thomas Curtis of Wylie, president of Skills USA, the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America; and Charel West of Arlington, sergeant at arms of Skills USA, the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America; and WHEREAS, Career and technology education courses have a proven track record of increasing academic performance, and with their participation in this challenging and exciting course of study, these outstanding student leaders and the peers they represent surely have bright futures; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby honor the delegates from career and technology education and extend to them best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared for the delegates as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
