R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The red-bordered pixie has been selected as the
official butterfly of the city of McAllen; and
WHEREAS, McAllen is world famous among wildlife watchers, and
the McAllen Marsh and the McAllen Botanical Gardens and Nature
Center provide visitors with ample resources among which to indulge
their interest in nature; and
WHEREAS, The tourism generated by nature enthusiasts greatly
contributes to the economy of McAllen, where more than 900 jobs have
been created to support the burgeoning industry; and
WHEREAS, For years the red-bordered pixie has been considered
the unofficial butterfly of McAllen, as the Valley is the only area
in the nation where it is found, and the city's popular Texas
Tropics Nature Festival has used the red, yellow, and black insects
on its promotional materials; striking and uncommon, the pixie
butterfly will surely offer yet one more reason for travelers to
visit the vibrant city of McAllen; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the city of McAllen on its
selection of the red-bordered pixie as the official butterfly of
the city; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the city of McAllen as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
