R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Texas Renal Coalition functions as a
clearinghouse for information and serves as a forum for all parties
involved in treatment, research, and educational programs relating
to kidney disease; and
WHEREAS, The Texas Renal Coalition and the National Kidney
Foundation monitor health policies, work to increase availability
of organ transplants, and seek to improve public awareness of
kidney disease through educational programs; and
WHEREAS, To that end, the Texas Renal Coalition has invited
kidney patients and representatives of the Texas Affiliation of the
National Kidney Foundation and the State Association of Medical
Professionals to the State Capitol today to draw public attention
to the problem of kidney disease and to encourage a dialogue about
the public policy needs of kidney patients; and
WHEREAS, Also present with us on this day are three citizens
whose lives have been personally touched by organ donation: Tom and
Janice Wycoff and Dr. Ernie Hodge; Mr. Wycoff donated a kidney to
Mrs. Wycoff on their silver wedding anniversary, and Dr. Hodge is
the transplant surgeon who performed the operation; their story
highlights the ability that living donors have to save the lives of
others through their selfless generosity and compassion; and
WHEREAS, The Texas Renal Coalition and those who have made a
personal commitment to supporting the prevention and treatment of
kidney disease are indeed deserving of special recognition at this
time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby recognize February 11, 2003, as Kidney Day at
the State Capitol and commend the Texas Renal Coalition and its
supporters for their significant efforts to highlight this
important health concern; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Texas Renal Coalition as an expression of high
regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
