R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Kathleen Curp, a teacher at Anderson High School in Austin, has devised a visionary way to involve students in the political process; and WHEREAS, This dedicated educator assigned the students in her government classes to volunteer eight hours of service to the political campaign of their choice during the 2002 election season and report back on their experiences; and WHEREAS, This assignment not only taught these young Texans valuable lessons in the workings of the democratic process, but also encouraged them to take an active role in the future of their community; the lessons they learned from this project will have continuing benefits for them throughout their lives; and WHEREAS, It is essential that our children develop a strong understanding of the political environment, and it is most appropriate that we pay tribute to Ms. Curp, who is working to instill this valuable knowledge in our next generation of leaders; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commend Kathleen Curp for her innovative approach to teaching and exemplary civic consciousness and extend to her sincere best wishes for success in all her future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Curp as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
